While Raw facing the pressure with their final hype for Payback on Sunday, SmackDown Live has able to present a show where they managed to further advanced their storyline and positioned their stars to make a major impact for the brand.
The show fick off with a special interview segment as Renee Young interviewed Shinsuke Nakamura. Before he could address the SmackDown Live fan, Dolph Ziggler’s music interrupted. There was some heat between the both wrestlers because what had happened in the past weeks. Toward the end of the segment Ziggle tried for a superkick but it was caught before Nakamura tried to do Kinshasa unfortunately Ziggler managed to escaped. I have to say that this segment was good as it continues from last week show and used it as the heat in this feud. Hope that SmackDown’s creative team can continue this feud well for the upcoming weeks.
First match of the night was a rematch from last week’s show, AJ Styles take on Baron Corbin in a single match. It was a good match where both wrestlers as both wrestler did their best to provide the best performance in this match on top of Owens trying to play the mind game with Styles but Styles managed to ignored Owens mind game and win the match. After the match, Owens assault Styles and later Corbin joined in before Zayn rescued Styles. Overall I would say that the match was good and I would say that Zayn finally get some sort of a push after months of poor book in Raw.
After a shocking loss to The Colons, there were booked in a Beat the Clock Challenge between American Alpha and The Colons. The Colons were dominated the match but as usual Jordan managed receive the tag from Gable and do his thing. Therefore American Alpha picked up the win. Even though that American Alpha won this match but I have to say that it’s good to see that The Colons get a little push in SmackDown but I feel that they deserve more push than they have currently.
Before Randy Orton took on Bray Wyatt at Payback, he squared off with Erick Rowan in a No Dusqulification match. The end result of this match is that Orton defeated Erick Rowan. Soon after the match over, Orton cut a promo on Bray Wyatt and The House of Horrors when Jinder Mahal interrupted. Mahal make his promo even though he interrupted Orton before the numbers game take over turn it into three-on-one beatdown before Mahal ‘steals’ the title away from Orton. I have to say that this is the best promo that Mahal had done so far in his career with the company.
Two heel teams competed for the right to challenge The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships in the second Beat the Clock Challenge Match of the night. With a 5:17 time to beat, both Breezango and The Ascension cut a fast and furious pace, each of them trying to score a victory over the other. Shockingly Fandango picked up the victory over Viktor with time to spare, meaning that Breezango is the new No.1 contender for the tag team gold. Honestly, it’s good to see Breezango get the push but by doing this decision it a bit shocking to say to be honest.
As for the main event, it was a match between Naomi and Charlotte. It was a good match between the two wrestler before Carmella, Natalya and Tamina suddenly hit the ring and attacked Charlotte to draw a disqualification. After the match, the trio-teamed Charlotte ntil Naomi made the save. Ultimately, both competitors caught a beatdown that left them lying in a heap and the heels standing tall to close the show. After watching this, I would say that there must be something interesting that WWE is trying to book with this division. I’m also currently excited to see the next step that WWE doing.
Overall I would say that SmackDown covered up the situation that happen with Raw the night before and I do enjoyed it. How to do guys feel about the show? Do comment in the comment section about it.
